In the March, 2006 issue of Michigan Turkey Tracks we wrote of the demise of Pigeon River Country State Forest. In the article were listed specific problems that endangered the “Big Wild”, one of the most unique forests on this planet.
The DNR formed a committee to update the Concept of Management plan, from which we were excluded. After three years a draft of the updated plan has been completed and is open for public review and comment at this writing.

In the March 2006 article it was asked “Any bets on a whitewash?” Despite letters to the Director, personal contact copies of the article to the Natural Resources Commissioners many of the problems are not being addressed. A formal letter will be sent of the draft of the plan. What action the DNR takes will be in the next issue of “Turkey Tracks”.
