As a result of those lower numbers of wild turkeys, most of northern Michigan will not host a fall wild turkey season this year, a move which MWTHA approved of, particularly in light of very low numbers in many areas of northern Michigan and irrational, illogical DNR rules like an opening day of September 15, when many poults are no bigger than robins.
But even little poults are better than no poults, which is what many areas are seeing after the cold, wet spring and very poor nesting conditions.
And once again, all of our chapters will do their best to see to it that those poults get through the winter ahead with our winter feeding programs, and many property owners, now free of the worries of being ticketed by the DNR for accidentally feeding a deer or two, will once again be helping us.
We’ve got lots more information on what’s going on with MWTHA chapter activities in this edition of Turkey Tracks. Read on!
Have a great fall!
