Another Farewell

Our sad farewells are becoming too frequent. This time it is Don Ingle and his wife Jean. During the early morning hours of March 8, 2012 Don’s house in Baldwin caught fire and both he and Jean died in it.

Don was a prolific outdoors writer and a member of the Michigan Outdoor Writers Association. He received many awards and honors for his writing. Don wrote for a number of publications and each year Don made sure that the Turkey Hunters Rendezvous received a lot of publicity.

Did You Ever?

Did you ever make a simple or silly mistake, or forget something while going hunting, etc? Cleaning your gun, checking your shells, taking your license and wearing the right clothes? These things never happen to us, always to some one else. During the excitement of the hunt things can be overlooked.

When going turkey hunting it happened to me.

What a great time we all had at the 26th Annual MWTHA Banquet at the Clare Church of the Nazarene last night. We handed out three scholarships: (pictured left to right) presenter Mark Todd - Morgan Bowers from Clare HS, Jaiden Sharrow from Farwell HS and Blake Davenport from Harrison HS. Also pictured is a small part of the kids who lined up to go across the stage to pick out their free gifts, and pictured is lucky “Polly” who was the first picked for the women’s free raffle table and decided to take the gun which was about as big as she is, lol. And, of course, we had a delicious dinner catered by Mack’s on Main from Gladwin. I must give a special shout out to “Johnny” from the Church of the Nazarene for all his help - he’s the best. Ask around and you’ll find out this is a great family oriented banquet night out. Thank you to everyone who came and to all our sponsors and workers who helped make this event possible each year. Certainly couldn’t do it without your help and support. ... See MoreSee Less

Everyone who has anything to do with guns in Michigan really needs to read up on all the new gun laws that have now gone into affect this February. You can Google all this and get all the info. Was talking with someone from a large sporting goods store and they will not be performing the so-called transfer NICs checks from person to person. Where you get this done I’m not sure…maybe smaller outfits will charge to do it, or the local police station. Check it all out and get informed. ... See MoreSee Less
