Turkey resource not to just obey the law but to adopt the highest level of respect to guide us in pursuit of the most magnificent game bird, the Wild Turkey.

As turkey hunters we shouldn’t let peer pressure and the excitement of the hunt to cloud our judgment. Hunt the Wild Turkey fairly and he will give you the thrill of a lifetime. We must insist on positively identifying our target as a legal bird and insist on a good shot. With most shotguns that will mean calling a gobbler up within 40 yards before taking a shot to insure a clean kill. Know the limitations of your gun or bow and make sure you use it safely. We must learn and practice safe hunting techniques.

As good stewards of our wildlife resources all of us must obey all wildlife laws. Studies show that poaching has serious impact on Wild Turkey production in some areas. Turn in violators. Respect the landowner and always obtain permission before hunting. Respect the right of others to share the out of doors. If you arrive at your favorite hunting spot and another hunter is calling to a turkey back off and try another spot. You would expect the same consideration from another hunter.

Don’t take things for granted. Value the hunting experience itself and appreciate the beauty of the Wild Turkey. As ethical sportsmen we need to share responsible turkey hunting with others. Time spent teaching a young or novice hunter is a wise investment in our hunting heritage and will pay dividends for generations to come.

Lending a hand and doing our part for Wild Turkey conservation will insure that our children and their children will be able to enjoy the Wild Turkey’s gobbles. High ethical standards are far more than just rules, they are a code to live by.”

For most of our members the above is like preaching to the choir, but we must remember that Turkey Tracks goes into the hands of many non members as well.
