Fall 2015 Update

To all MWTHA members and interested friends:

Time sure flies these days. It seems like the spring turkey season just ended, but we’re already looking at fall and another fall turkey season here in Area J.

No one’s quite sure why we are once again having a fall turkey season here. With no organized feeding programs in this area any more, two horribly cold winters, and several late, cold springs, which along with a long list of predators has had a devastating effect on the last two nesting

Spring 2015 Update

As this is written, it is once again the dead of winter in northern Michigan, and although December was very mild, it’s been very cold since then, with more than a foot of snow on the ground in many areas, which makes it pretty tough for our wild turkey flocks.

September 2014 Update

Here’s hoping that you barbecued up a spring gobbler for your 4th of July celebration-some of us enjoyed success this spring, and some of us found far less gobbling, far fewer birds, and much tougher hunting in the aftermath of the record cold northern Michigan winter of 2013-2014.

March 2014 Update

March 2014 Update

To all MWTHA members and interested friends:

It’s been a very long winter. Especially for our wild turkeys, which have had to withstand the coldest temperatures the state of Michigan has seen in many, many years. If you are helping our wild turkeys survive by feeding them, our hat is off to you and you have our deepest appreciation. Without our help, the wild turkey cannot survive the winters of northern Michigan.

To help the winter pass, once again plans are in the works for a variety of MWTHA banquets and spring hunting workshops – our primary fundraisers for our feeding programs, as well as another visit to a variety of outdoor shows. Be sure to attend these functions, details of which you’ll find on our site, and support your local chapter of MWTHA!
