It’s a sad situation when one valuable wildlife species suffers to benefit another, but it is beyond stupid when the actions taken that brought that situation on do not benefit anything at all.
And yet the DNRE still insists on that policy.
So, we’ll hope for a good hatch this summer, and will continue to try to make sure our birds make it through what could be a very rough winter with an apparent lack of mast due to the invasion of tent caterpillars throughout the north last spring. Many of us will continue to feed, doing everything we can to prevent the deer from eating it. All we can do is hope for the best, and the survival of not just our northern wild turkeys, but also some of the finest public land hunting in the world.
Have a great fall!
